The College maintains a permanent year-round facility in Rome. Studio and classroom spaces, a library, administrative offices, and housing accommodations for faculty are located in the Palazzo Pio on the Campo de Fiori. The Rome Center is used by UW programs in classics, Romance languages, art, art history, English, creative writing, and comparative history of ideas, as well as by the departments of the College of Built Environments. The Rome Center fosters interaction among students from the University and other institutions, together with practicing professionals residing in or visiting Rome. Several major universities regularly share studio critics and lecturers.
